MILLINGTON - Violet Adele Hornfeld, age 102, our kind, gentle, hard-working and faithful, mother, grandmother, aunt, neighbor, and friend, passed peacefully into her Savior’s arms on Monday, Feb. 14, 2022.
Violet Adele Johnson was born in Detroit, on November 13, 1919, to the late William and Mildred (Whitcomb) Johnson. She graduated from Detroit Southwestern High School and began her work with the Grand Truck Railroad as medical secretary to the chief surgeon. In 1942, Violet was united in marriage to the love of her life Cliff Hornfeld. Together they celebrated 59 years of marriage, raising their three sons: Gary, Roy, and Jim, and made countless memories. No stranger to hard work, she enjoyed life on the farm in Millington, raising her sons, and tending to her beautiful flower gardens. Violet loved the Lord deeply and shared her gift of music as the organist with Grace Lutheran Church in Vassar for over 50 years. After retiring as the organist, she and Cliff joined St. Paul Lutheran Church where she was a member for over 20 years. Above all, Violet was passionate about spending time with and devoted to her family.
Violet is forever loved by her sons: Gary (Trudy) Hornfeld, Roy (Susan) Hornfeld, and Jim (Terri) Hornfeld; grandchildren: Tracy, Nathan, Chris, Danielle, Courtney, Laura and Matt; sister-in-law and friend Betty Sandelbach; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Cliff (d. 2002); brother, Burton Johnson; and best pal and companion Molly.
The family would like to thank very special neighbors and friends: Andy & Marlene Stratton, Marian Reinert, and Patty Petzold.
The family will welcome guests to Hanlin Funeral Home on the evening of Friday, February 18, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 19, 2022, at St. Paul Lutheran Church (4941 Center St, Millington, MI 48746), additional visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. and last until the time of service.
