Thomas (Tom) DeCoe of Vassar, age 80, passed away peacefully at his home with family on Sunday, December 3, 2023. Tom was born March 5, 1943, in Saginaw, Michigan, the son of the late Berton and Agnes (Seney) DeCoe. He was a 1961 graduate of Vassar High School. On June 24, 1961, Tom married Janet Luther and together they have celebrated 62 years of marriage. He retired in 1998 from Saginaw Steering Gear of Saginaw, Michigan after 37 years. He was a CPL instructor, and a lifetime member of the Richville Conservation Club.
Generations of family and friends have spent time with Tom at his cabin in Mio. He loved his time at the cabin, fishing on the AuSable River, hunting, motorcycling, and snowmobiling. He recently spent time at the cabin with his son hunting, which he greatly looked forward to in spite of his illness. He succumbed after a long battle with Myelodysplastic Syndrome.
Among his many talents were woodworking and fixing anything and everything, for anyone. Generous in his knowledge, and frequently a teacher. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, wherever they were. Many adventures and trips to Massachusetts, Texas, Missouri, New York, Alaska, Silver Lake, Caribbean and Disney with his family.
Tom is survived by his wife Janet (Luther) DeCoe, daughter Mary Beth and husband Raymond Rattey, son Thomas and wife Michelle DeCoe, grandchildren; Mack, Genevieve, and Marie Rattey, Rachel DeCoe, and great grandson Luke Rattey. He is joined in Heaven with his grandson Jonathan DeCoe. Tom leaves his siblings; William (Jill) DeCoe, Iris (Lynn) Viele, Jennie (Jerry) Comstock, and sister-in-law Beth Wilson. He will be remembered by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters-in-law; Bonnie DeCoe and Mary Parrent.
The family is grateful for the love and care of the Covenant VNA, and the special prayers of Pray A Latte of Vassar First United Methodist Church.
