Russell L. Underwood

Russell “Rusty” “Russ” L. Underwood, age 51, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 8, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

Rusty was born in Saginaw, on February 23, 1972, to Lawrence & Carol (Parent) Underwood. He was raised alongside his siblings Fred, Chad, and Misty and attended Vassar schools. He worked as a foreman with Michigan Fence for over 15 years. Russ met the love of his life, Rhonda Horning. They dated, fell in love, and were wed on January 10, 1995. Together they shared 28 years of marriage and countless memories. Russ was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish and deer hunt. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR and football and playing a game of euchre. Further, he liked time spent around a bonfire with family and friends. Above all, Russ was a family man, and he will be sorely missed.

Russ is survived by his wife, Rhonda; “furbabies” Foxy-Roxy, Molly Mae, and Jersey; mother and stepfather, Carol & Steven Williams; brothers, Fred Underwood, and Chad (Lisa) Williams; sister, Misty (Todd) Sharp; in-laws, Jackie (Gordy) Sebert and Donovan (Jamie) Horning; mother and father-in-law, Ron Sr. & Joy Horning; as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Underwood; grandparents; and brother-in-law, Ron “Ronnie” Horning Jr.

Russ’ family will welcome guests to Hanlin Funeral Home – Vassar on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, from 3-7 p.m. Funeral services for Russ will be at the funeral home on Thursday, October 12, 2023, beginning at 11 a.m.; additional visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
