Rose M. Legue

Rose Marie (Swaffer) Legue passed away on Saturday, August 17th at the age of 93.

Rose was born on October 4, 1930 to Harry Thomas Swaffer and his wife Marie Louise (Rahn) Swaffer at their home east of Vassar. With the addition of Rose, the Swaffers had eight children. Winifred (George) Calopisis, Dorothy Swaffer, Mildred (James) Siverly, Bernadine (Joseph) Sulicki, Donna (Delphin) Hill, Charles (Wanda) Swaffer and George (Majorie) Swaffer. Rose's parents and siblings have pre-deceased her.

On August 20, 1949 Rose wed John Wallace Legue at her parents home in a garden wedding. John and Rose would be blessed with four children Karen (Daniel) Hoover, Nancy (Lawrence) Dues, Larry (Tina) Legue and Ricky Legue. In addition to four children they had seven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

Rose would raise her children before joining the workforce and then spend 31 years working at the Bavarian Haus Motel in Frankenmuth (currently Zehnders Splash Village). She made may life long friends at her job and considered her employers, Walter and Maria Palmer, to be one of the most positive influences in her life.

In July of 2004 Rose retired from her job to take care of John, who's health was declining. It was plain to see that Rose was a natural caregiver. She lovingly and without complaint, cared for John until he passed away in April of 2012, after 63 years of marriage.

Two and a half years later she would lose her first born, Karen, to cancer.

Nothing gave Rose more pleasure than her grand kids and her garden. She tended to her flowers and vegetables until she was 90 years old, and was amused by the antics of her grand kids well beyond that.

Funeral services for Rose will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at Hanlin Funeral Home in Vassar; visitation will begin at 10 a.m. and last until the time of service. Afterward, burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Vassar.
