Mr. Roger Dean Johnson, age 79, our loving, courageous, and humorous father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away at home in Birch Run, Michigan, surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, January 29th, 2023.
Roger was born on May 25th, 1943 in Ashland, Kentucky to parents Edgar & Myrtle (Johnson) Johnson. He was raised alongside his older brothers and together grew up in various states that he remained very fond of, including Pennsylvania and Michigan. After college, Roger worked as the manager at Commercial Wire Rope in Flint. He was passionate about fishing (and was very good at telling fishing stories), anything in the great outdoors, metal detecting and all things Airstream trailers! He developed a hobby in restoring old Airstreams, which culminated in him becoming a proud column contributor for Airstream Life Magazine for a few years.
He formerly lived in various parts of Florida and cherished his time spent there, especially his home in Spring Hill; a home where he enjoyed playing shuffleboard with friends, riding his tricycle, hiking, and swimming in the natural spring there. He also leaves behind many friends there who he valued deeply. Roger had a special love for animals, and had many cherished pets throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his beloved soul-dogs, Boo-Boo, Herbie and Figgy. Roger will always be remembered for his great sense of humor and love of family.
Roger is survived by his daughter, Lori (Brian) Jones; grandchildren, Levi Keinath, and Shelby Jones; step-daughters Belinda (Steve) Bator, and Lisa (Dallas) Haubenstricker, with many grandchildren and great grandchildren; brothers, Henry Johnson, and Harry (Cathy) Johnson; sister-in-law, Glenna Johnson; several beloved nieces & nephews; special friend Erin (Tyler) Hayes, and special “Cousin Big Jim” along with extended family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Garry Johnson, and Willard Johnson; sister Katie Loftis, and sister-in-law, Elaine Johnson.
A celebration of Roger’s life will be held on Saturday, April 29th, 2023, in Clearwater, Florida. More details to come.
