Mr. Robert “Bob” Douglas Williams Jr., age 73, a longtime Millington resident, passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at home surrounded by his loving family.
Bob was born in Flint, Michigan, on February 23, 1951, to William & Rosemary (née McFadden) Bretzloff. He was raised in Millington alongside his siblings and attended St. Paul Lutheran and Millington schools. Bob honorably served in the U.S. Army from 1968-1971 as a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne Division. On July 20, 1974, Bob married the love of his life, Sheila Hodges. Together they shared nearly 50 years of marriage and raised their sons, Rob and Scott. In his working years, Bob was a union representative with General Motors before his retirement in 2002. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed all that Michigan had to offer including hunting, fishing, and the woods. His hobbies included cutting wood, riding Harley Davidson Motorcycles, and making stained glass. Further, Bob enjoyed traveling to Rice Lake in Canada every summer and visiting his Amish friends in Ohio.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sheila; sons, Rob (Mandy) Williams, and Scott (Adrian) Williams; grandchildren: Skyler Williams, and Olivia Williams; great-grandson, Eric Williams; brother, Mark (Denise) Williams; sister, Hope Hilgendorf; brothers-in-law, Courtney (Lottie) Hodges, and Michael (Dawn) Hodges; sister-in-law, Cindy (Bob) Joyce; special friends: Judy Meyer, Dan & Linda Hildebrand, and many Amish friends from Ohio; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family, and many other friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, William & Rosemary Bretzloff; father-and-mother-in-law, Howard & Jean Hodges; brothers-in-law, Bob Hilgendorf, and Stanley Hodges; sisters-in-law, Sue Thompson, and Sherry Bocek; and good friend, Mark Meyer.
Bob’s family will welcome visitors to Hanlin Funeral Home in Millington from 2-8 p.m. on Friday, May 3, 2024. Funeral services for Bob will be at St. Paul Lutheran Church (4941 Center St, Millington, MI 48746) at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2024. Rev. Jim Bruner will preside. Immediately afterward, Bob will be laid to rest in Millington Twp. Cemetery and receive military funeral honors under the auspices of the Conrad-Wager-Keene American Legion Post #164.
