Riley W. Petty

Mr. Riley William Petty, age 72, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2025.

Riley was born in Saginaw, Michigan, on March 19, 1952, to Jesse & Velda Petty (née Hutchinson). On January 8, 1972, he married the love-of-his-life, Joanie Lee Swaffer. Together they shared countless memories, raised their children, and celebrated 53 years of marriage. Sadly, Joanie passed away on February 17, 2025, only 8 days prior to Riley; but now both are reunited together again. Riley loved animals of all kinds as he raised: llamas, alpacas, emus, ostriches, dogs, and cats. In his working years he worked as a supervisor with Means Industry. Further, Riley was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Vassar. Above all, Riley loved his family and will be deeply missed by them.

He is survived by his children: Victoria (Jesse) Gabrysiak, Wayne Petty, and Michael Petty; son-in-law, Caleb Shonk; grandchildren: AJ Petty, Emily Petty, Carlen Shonk, Sabrina Petty, and Corrie Petty.

Riley was preceded in death by his wife, Joanie Petty; son, Riley William Petty, Jr.; daughter, Tammy Shonk; parents, Jesse & Velda Petty; and in-laws, George & Marge Swaffer.

Private services have been held.
