Reverend Kenneth L. (Ken) Hoard of Millington, Michigan passed from our world into God’s Kingdom early Saturday morning April 6, 2019, Ken was 69.
Ken was the son of the late Clyde and Marleah (Leach) Hoard and was born in Flint, Michigan on December 28, 1949. Growing up in Millington Ken attended Millington School’s and graduated from Millington High School in 1968. After high school, Ken furthered his education by attending Michigan State University. Ken graduated from Michigan State in 1972 having received a Bachelor’s degree during his time there. More importantly, Michigan State is where Ken met Kathy Salisbury, and on November 25, 1972, Ken married Kathy. Ken then attended Eastern Baptist Seminary in Pennsylvania and received his Master’s of Divinity in 1975 and became ordained by the American Baptist Conference. Ken returned to Michigan with his family as a minister and never stopped serving within the church. Ken was forever a student and continued his education by obtaining a second Master’s Degree in counseling from Central Michigan University in 1997. Ken worked as a school counselor and officially retired from Bangor Township Schools in 2014. Ken retired by becoming the Pastor of Millington Baptist Church, the church he had grown up in.
Ken was an active member of the Millington Ministerial Alliance, Millington Lion’s Club, and served as a Chaplain to the Tuscola County Sheriff’s Office. Ken enjoyed spending his time outdoors, historical reenacting, and tending to his apple orchard. By far Ken’s favorite activity was spending time on his “farm” with his grandchildren.
Ken leaves to cherish his memory; wife Kathy. Four children; Chris (Kristen) Hoard, Patti (Robert) Steinbrecher, Robert (Jennifer) Hoard, and John (Colleen) Hoard, four grandchildren; Katelyn, Claire, Lucas, and Andrew. Ken leaves also his two brothers and sister in-laws; Alan (Shelia) Hoard and Jeff (Dawn) Hoard, nieces, nephews many cousins, other extended family and many friends.
The Hoard family will receive friends on Thursday, April 11, 2019 at the Millington Baptist Church Fellowship Hall (4727 Center St, [East of M-15 behind the fire hall]) for a time of fellowship, visiting, and sharing from 3:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. A celebration of Ken’s life will be held on Friday, April 12, 2019 beginning at 11:00 A.M., also at the Millington Baptist Church. The family has honored Ken’s wishes and cremation has taken place. Memorial Gifts of Remembrance can be directed to the Millington Baptist Church envelopes will be available at the visitation on Thursday and Friday at the services.
