Patricia A. Gawne

Patricia A. Gawne (79), left this world peacefully on 10/15/2024. Born on 3/3/45, her early years were spent in Moorestown, MI before the family settled into Vassar. 

She graduated from Vassar High School in 1963 and went on to study stenographics at the Saginaw Business Institute graduating in 1964. 

On October 25, 1970, she married her love and lifelong dance partner, Jerry. Seven years later they brought their only child, RaeAnn, to the world. Pat and Jerry built a wonderful life together. They traveled, rode motorcycles, mopeds, and boated the waters of the Saginaw Bay. 

Pat worked and retired from the State of Michigan as a legal secretary in the Unemployment Office. She was involved in the City of Vassar, serving on the Parks and Recreation Commission, City Council and as Mayor Pro-Tem. Among other activities and events, she advocated for the iconic pumpkin roll and raft races during Riverfest.

She had a zest for the outdoors, crafting and gardening. Her home and ‘Patty’s Park’ were abound with various colorful flowers and plants. She enjoyed watching all of the different birds and hummingbirds that frequented her feeders. 

Pat’s true joy showed when she was with her grandchildren. Most of all, she treasured her time being with them and endlessly spoiling them.

She had a kind soul, the most beautiful blue eyes and an everlasting love for her family.

Left to cherish moments and memories are her daughter and son-in-law, RaeAnn and Eric (Blakeley), granddaughter and husband, Erica and Noah (Dailey), grandson, Steven and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Pat was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry; parents, Hillard and Josephine Smith and brother Michael Smith. 

A memorial service for Pat will be held at the Vassar Eagles (651 State Rd, Vassar, MI 48768) at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 26, 2024.
