Norma J. Skower

Mrs. Norma J. Skower, age 75, entered eternal life peacefully on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, surrounded by love.

Norma was born in Saginaw on March 11, 1948, to Mr. Norman & Mrs. Joan (LeFevre) VanWormer. She met the love of her life, James “Jim” Skower. They dated, fell in love, and were wed on December 31, 1966. Together they shared over 56 years of marriage, countless memories, and raised their three daughters Renee, Lesley, and Angela. Before retirement, Norma had served as the secretary of the Catholic Diocese of Saginaw for 22 years. Further, Norma was a longtime parishioner of the Catholic Community of St. Jude in Dewitt and St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish in Vassar.

She is survived by her husband, Jim Skower; daughters, Renee (Mike) Griffin and Lesley (Mike) Kornacki; five grandchildren: Allyson, Evan, Alex, Henry, and Andrew; sisters, Connie (Henry) Hornung, and Monica (Mike) Conklin; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Norma is preceded in death by her daughter, Angela Joan Skower; parents, Norman & Joan VanWormer; father-and-mother-in-law, Joseph & Eleanor Skower; and brother-in-law, Joseph Skower Jr.

Norma’s mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 27, 2023, at St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish in Vassar; visitation at church from 9 a.m. until the time of mass. Fr. Andrew LaFramboise will preside. Rite of committal to follow in Riverside Cemetery, Vassar, MI.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff of Woodland Assisted Living and the staff of Hospice of Lansing for their compassionate care of Norma.
