Nilah Berry

September 1, 1930 — December 26, 2022

Nilah (Olvey) Berry of Millington passed away in her sleep the early morning of December 26, 2022, while recovering from hip surgery at Maple Woods Manor in Clio.

Nilah was born in Redkey, Indiana in 1930 and very proud of the fact that she was 92 years old!  She married Guiles Berry on April 1, 1950.  Together they celebrated 57 wonderful years before he passed in 2008.  She loved to travel and enjoyed many "miles with Guiles" over the years in all 50 states and Canadian provinces.  She enjoyed her nearly 25 years as Secretary to the Superintendent (as the title was known back then) where she made many friends.  She was a proud 74-year member of Huldah Rebekah Lodge #168, Millington where she made many more friends.  She was very primary in arranging the 622nd Army Engineers (which they later gave her the title of Honorary Secretary) for their many Reunions throughout mid US and the later years in Nashville, Tennessee.

Nilah leaves to cherish her memory her daughters, Sheila Hebner and Sherrill Burrill; grandchildren, Corey and Joan Hebner, Scott and Christy Hebner and Nicole and Christian Bowman; great grandchildren Kyle and Derek Hebner, Nara Hebner, Haley and Nathaniel Bowman; brother James & Donna Olvey, Indiana and sisters Ruth Ann & Arnold Petzold, Vassar, Oneida (Kay) & Kenny Pickett, Indiana and Linda & Gailan Kester, Millington, as well as many nieces, nephews and many, many, many friends.  Nilah was preceded in death by Guiles, son-in-law Bob Hebner, great grandson, Jacob Yost, her parents, siblings and spouses Regina & Ed Willcox, Hazel & Ed Oyer, Merrill & Loneta Olvey, Lucretia & Byron Smith and brother-in-law Herb Reinert.  A special thank you to the wonderful nurses at Genesys 4th Floor Orthopedics and Maple Woods Manor.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 28, 2023, 2-4 PM at Millington United Methodist Church, 9020 State Road, Millington, MI  48746.  Memorials may be made to the church, a charity of your choice or a charity that benefits children or animals.
