Mr. Wayne Shamel

Wayne L. Shamel a lifelong Millington resident passed away on Saturday, September 8, 2012, at St. Mary's of Michigan in Saginaw at age 74.

Wayne was born December 3, 1937, in Millington, the son of George (Roy) and Ida (Manwaring) Shamel. He graduated from Millington High School, the class of 1956. He worked the family farm until he entered the U.S. Army in 1961. He was united in marriage to Phyllis McLoud on November 24, 1961.

After serving in the military, he worked for Genesee and McDonald Dairies then Atlas Warehouse from where he retired in 1999. He loved deer hunting in Ontonagon, Michigan for the past 55 years. Wayne enjoyed playing golf, gardening, and watching baseball and Michigan State football. He loved sharing his life experiences with his sons and grandchildren.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Phyllis; his four sons and their families, Scott (Anita Harris), Steven (Leslie), Shawn (Debbie), Stanley (Nancy); grandchildren, Karlie, Jennifer, Jackson, Sophia, Carmen and Alexis; siblings, George (Edith) Shamel, Donna (Alden) Dean, Royce (Sandy) Shamel and sister-in-law Mary (Jerry) Rezler and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Beatrice Shamel and Betty Collins; brothers, Albert and Ronald (Tuffy) Shamel.

Service Information

The family has honored Waynes wishes and cremation has taken place. A memorial and a life celebration service was held on Sunday September 23, 2012 at Four Occasions Hall in Millington, Michigan. Wayne's brother in-law Dale McLoud delivered the eulogy. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nursing staff on St. Mary's NICU floor for the compassion and care given to Wayne and his family.
