Mr. Walter Ernest Keene of Millington, went to be with our Lord and Savior Sunday evening August 17, 2014 at his home in Millington with family at his side, Walter was 94.
Walter was born May 6, 1920 in Saginaw Michigan; he was the son of the late Carroll and Phyllis (Thompson) Keene. On October 4th, of 1947 Walter married Angeline Gorney, she predeceased him on August 25, 2012. Together they raised seven children.
Walter was a loving husband, father, grand-father, great grand-father, great-great grand-father, uncle and brother. Walter served in World War II with the 8th US-Army Air Corp Division from January 1943 to November of 1945. He retired from General Motors Grey Iron Foundry in Saginaw in 1979 after 25 years of service. Walter did small engine repair from his home until 1988 when he and his son in-law, Sherman LeVan, built the present Keene Small Engine Sales & Service Inc. Walter loved working in his garden and his yard, which he did until 2014. Walter was honored to have been selected as Millington's Most Honored Citizen in 2011. Walter was an active member of the Millington Rotary Club. Walter will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Walter leaves to cherish his memory, daughter Heather and husband John Badcock, daughter Ethel and husband Jerry Hall, son James and wife Sue Keene, daughter Sue and husband Sherman LeVan, son Carroll Keene, daughter Virginia and husband Richard Moore; 14 grand-children, many great and great-great grand-children; his sister Ethel (Sis) Ensing, brother John Keene, sister Erma Rieger, sister in-law, Phyllis Keene, brother in-law Frank and wife Margie Gorney, as well as many nieces, nephews, other extended family, and many, many friends he has met along the way.
Besides his wife and parents Walter is also preceded in death by two sons, Walter M. and Russell F. Keene, a grand-daughter Annette LeVan-Mucker, a sister Pearl, and a brother Wesley.

The Keene family will receive friends on Thursday August 21, 2014 at the Hanlin Funeral Home in Millington from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm and also on Friday August 22, 2014 at the Millington United Methodist Church from 9:30 am until services begin.
Funeral services will be held on Friday August 22, 2014 at the Millington United Methodist Church at 11:00 am. Pastor Pete Crawford will deliver the funeral message, and the closing prays at the cemetery. The burial will follow at the Millington Twp. Cemetery.
