Mrs. Ina Greenfield

Mrs. Ina Gladys (Cooley) Greenfield a longtime Millington resident passed away early Sunday evening Oct. 23, 2011 at the Heritage Hills Manor in Caro MI, Ina was 92.

Ina was born in Owendale MI the eldest child of Aurthur & Hazel (Carson) Cooley. She married Roy O. Greenfield in Bowling Green, Ohio on May 4, 1942, Roy precedes her in death on January 31, 1987. Roy and Ina moved to Millington with their three young children in 1953 and raised registered Shetland ponies for 30 years. Ina received her BS and MA degrees from Central Michigan University.

She was employed by the Millington Community Schools for over 24 years, 9 years as a third grade teacher, ½ year as the school librarian, and 15 years as Principal of the Glaza Elementary School, where she was highly respected by her staff, students and the Millington community. Ina retired from the Millington School system December 31, 1980. But even after retiring she still tutored at the Kirk Elementary School. She was a very giving person, loving mother, grandmother, and dear friend to many and will be missed by all.

Ina was active in her church and the community. She was Secretary of the Michigan Pony Association for many years, she was also very active in the 4-H program while her children were growing up. Ina was also an active member of the Millington United Methodist for over 60 years, where she taught Adult Sunday School (Ina's Class)for several years. She was a member of the Millington-Arbela Historical Society, member of the Tuscola County Mental Health Board, one of the founders of the Millington Quilt Club, member of Order of the Eastern Stars, serving in several positions including Worthy Matron. Ina was a member of the Millington Methodist Women's Club, and the Flint District Board of United Methodist Women. She was awarded the Most Honored Citizen of Millington in 2007.

Ina leaves her family son and daughter in-law; Phil & Sharon Greenfield, daughter and son in-law Linda & Karl Sayles, and daughter Kathy Mason all of Millington, grandchildren Karl Sayles Jr., Kirk &(Gina) Sayles, Cheri (John) Greenfield-McNaught, Karla (Robert) Lloyd, Jon (Danielle) Mason, and Phillip Troy Greenfield, as well as several great grandchildren, she leaves also a sister Sara of Kona Hawaii, and several nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. Besides her husband Ina is also preceded in death by infant children James and Barbara, grandson Kevin Sayles in 2004, son in-law Wilbur (Bill) Mason in 2010, and three brothers Aurthur Jr. John, and Fred Cooley.

Service Information

Funeral services were held on Thursday Oct. 27, 2011 at the Millington United Methodist Church. Pastors Pete Crawford, and Roger Hazen delivered the funeral message and closing prayers. Memorial gifts of remembrance can be directed to the Greenfield family for a memorial to be established at a later date.
