Mrs. Barbara Blake

August 24, 1938 — November 25, 2012

Barbara Ann (Schumaker) Blake life long resident of Millington died Sunday November 25th, 2012 after a long valiant four-year battle with cancer. She passed away peacefully at the Frankenmuth Lutheran Home with her family by her side. Barb was 74 years old. Barb was born in Millington on August 24, 1938 to Betty and Chris Schumaker. She graduated from Millington High School in 1955, and enjoyed working at Schumaker's Restaurant in Millington for many years, and most recently worked at The Country Shoppes where she shared her decorating talent and loved making many friends.

On August 1, 1959 Barb married the love of her life, Robert Blake. They were best friends and happily married for 44 years before he passed in August of 2003.

In life Barb enjoyed shopping, spending time with grand children, traveling and eating with friends. She recently told a good friend, " I traveled everywhere I wanted to travel. I ate everything I wanted to eat. I have done everything I wanted to do. I have no regrets!" Mom's friends knew that if her flag was out on the porch she was ready to greet them with a hot cup of coffee and her beautiful smile. The family would like to thank the community of Millington for all their love and support, and prayers she received though out her battle with cancer. Mom loved Millington and Millington loved her back. Barb was very honored to be named Millington's Most Honored Citizen in 1981. She was very active in many organizations, worked many of the elections, and was a charter member of the Millington Boosters Club.

Barb leaves to cherish her memory with a loving family: two sons, Rod Blake (fiancé Pam Peplinski) and Rod's daughter Christin Blake, her daughter Brooklyn. Pam's children Jake (Margaret) Schlereth and their son Caleb, Josh and Lydia Peplinski. Gregg Blake (Lynda), and their daughters Danielle and Victoria. Son in Law, Michael (Amy) Roth and their children Rachel (Dave) Tapling and their son Mason, Adam (Judy) Roth, Hannah, Abigail, Sarah, Jacob, Benjamin and Joel.

Besides her husband Bob, Barb is also preceded in death by daughter Sandy Roth, parents Chris and Betty Schumaker, sister Patty Bradburn, niece Jessie Bradburn and her brother Jerry Schumaker.

The family would like to thank special friends Mary Jane Shreve, Sharon Garrett, Betty Bradley for their rides to and from treatments, meals, endless hugs, and support through this difficult time. You three were like her sisters. The family would also like to thank her exceptional nurse April, from Frankenmuth Lutheran Home for all her love care and compassion and for the entire staff's love and support.

In lieu of flowers, Barb asked that you consider The Millington Summer Festival Fireworks committee that she and Bob led for many years (so she could go out with a bang) P.O.Box 167, Millington, Michigan 48746, or the donor's favorite charity
