Mrs. Alice M. (Aurand) DeLand a lifelong Millington resident passed from our world into God’s Kingdom late Tuesday evening April 19, 2016 while at the Tuscola County Medical Care Facility in Caro, Alice was 87.
Alice was born on May 27, 1928 in Millington, Michigan and was the daughter of the late Carl and Alice (Thompson) Aurand. Alice was a graduate of Millington High School class of 1946, after high school Alice went on to the Hurley School of Nursing and graduated in 1949. She worked for Dr. R.O. Flett MDin Millington for 3 ½ years. She then went on to continue her nursing career working at Hurley Hospital (known today as Hurley Medical Center) and also for St. Joseph Hospital (known today as Genesys Regional Medical Center). Alice retired from nursing after 22 years. Alice also participated for 38 years in the Harvard Medical School of Nurses’ Health Study. On August 19, 0f 1950 Alice married Victor R. DeLand, and she and Vic celebrated 44 years of marriage before his passing in 1994. In 2008 Alice was award as Millington’s Most Honored Citizen, she was also a Charter Member of the Millington-Arbela Historical Society.
Alice leaves her four children: Dave and wife Jonie DeLand, Dan and wife Ann DeLand, Sue and husband Joe Parker, and Connie and husband Mike Loveland. Alice leaves also 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and other extended family. Besides her husband Alice is also preceded in death by a brother, a sister and a great granddaughter.
The DeLand family will receive friends at the Hanlin Funeral Home in Millington, MI, on Sunday April 24, 2016 from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm, there will also be a time of visitation from 10:00 am on Monday April 25, 2016 at the Millington United Methodist Church where Alice will lie in-state. Funeral services for Alice will be on Monday April 25, 2016 at 11:00 am at the Millington United Methodist Church with burial to follow at the Millington Township Cemetery, Pastor Pete Crawford will deliver the funeral message, and the committal prayer at the cemetery. Memorial Gifts of Remembrance can be directed to the Millington-Arbela Twp. Fire Dept., or to the Millington United Methodist Church.
