Robert Michael Alexander, 71, of Vassar, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on March 25, 2016 after a valiant eight year battle with cancer. He was the best boyfriend ever of Patricia Alexander, cherished father of Michelle Alexander (John Xerri) and Sarah (Steven) Maurer, and beloved Papa of Zachary and Matthew Gutman, Jessie Xerri, and Magdalen and Elias Maurer.
Born October 26, 1944 in Saginaw, Michigan, Robert was the son of the late Robert and Mary Alexander and baby brother of the late Marilyn Newcomb, Norma Washabaugh, the late Patricia Madigan, and M. Kathleen Duby. On October 23, 1965, he married Patricia Yencer at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Zilwaukee, Michigan. Robert worked for 36 years at Saginaw Steering Gear before retiring to become an apprentice tax preparer of his wife Patricia. An avid hunter, fisherman, electrician, novice lumberjack, and pilot Robert knew a little bit about everything and had a love for learning more, which he cultivated in his daughters and grandchildren. Robert wore many hats in life and was a quiet, compassionate man of deep faith who led by example. He will be deeply and dearly missed by all those whose life he touched.
The Alexander family will receive friends on Tuesday March 29, 2016 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm and also on Wednesday March 30, 2016 from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Hanlin Funeral Home in Millington. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to consider donating to Cardinal Wishes.
Because He lives, I can face tomorrow, because He lives, all fear is gone, and then one day I'll cross the river, I'll fight life's final war with pain, and then as death gives away to victory, I'll see the lights of glory, and I'll know He lives.
