Perry Newton of Ventura, California age 86, passed away on October 13, 2016 at his home surrounded with loved ones, after a long battle with cancer ended and he went to his Heavenly Home.


Perry was born on June 25, 1030 to the late Marie and John Newton. He grew up on the family farm on Swaffer Road in Vassar, MI where he attended Elkhorn School and graduated from Vassar High School. After two years of Bay City Junior College, he felt he needed to serve his country. So, he put his college education on hold and enlisted in the Army where he served three years with Army Security Agency in Korea. After discharge, he finished his degree in electrical engineering at the University of Houston. He was the recruited by the Navy at Pt. Mugu, California where he worked for 36 years.


In 1964, he married Barbara Johnson from Cloquet, Minnesota and they raised their family in Ventura, California. Perry liked to hunt, fish. golf, camp and travel with family and friends. He played the piano, guitar, and banjo, and he wrote many poems, and songs about his family, friends, and life on the farm. His faith was strong and over his life time he served in the Methodist, Ventura missionary, and Baptist churches.


Perry leaves his wife Barbara. He leaves also his three sons and their wives; Dave and Bonnie, John and Jolie, and Jess and Nancy, he leaves two daughters, Vallerie and husband David Ladd, and Gloria Newton. Also, nine grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, and a brother and his wife, Dale and Cookie Newton, nieces, nephews, and extended family. Besides his parents, Perry is also preceded in death by a sister; Ruth Uhl


A memorial to celebrate Perry’s life will be held on Saturday June 24, 2017 at the Vassar First United Methodist Church beginning at 11:00 am. The family will receive guest beginning at 10:00 am. There be a time of fellowship and reminiscing at a luncheon following the services.
