Leo J. Smith long time Millington resident passed away late Sunday afternoon October 9, 2011 while at the Hurley Medical Center in Flint MI, Leo was 64.
Leo was the son of the late Clinton & Evelyn (Harris) Smith, and was born on July 11, 1947 in Petoskey Michigan. Leo was a graduate of the Mayville High School, and after school he served our country during the Vietnam War. When he returned home he married his wife of 38 years Miss Sara Wiles. Sara has preceded Leo in death in April of 2004. Leo is also preceded in death by two brothers, Harold & Clinton Smith and his parents. Leo loved to hunt, fish, spending time outdoors with family and friends. This time of year he was gearing up for his hunting trips. Leo has also been a long time member of the NRA. He was retired from Iron Workers Local 25 after 22 years of employment.
Leo leaves his four children, Mike & wife Beth Smith, Jerry Smith, Terry Smith, and daughter & son in-law Chrissy & John Dennis, 10 grandchildren Brianna, Caleb, Scott, Kyle, Kayla, Eden, Brandon, Casey, Cheyenne, and Gage, one brother and sister in-law; Tom & Nancy Smith, three sisters and a brother in-law; Shirley Smith, Yvonne & Bill Binschus, and Janet Seeley, as well as several nieces, nephews, friends, and other extended family. Funeral services where held on Wednesday October 12, 2011 at the Hanlin Funeral Home, with Pastor Larry Spooner delivered the funeral message and closing prayers at the cemetery. Burial followed at the Newton Cemetery in Arbela Twp. The services at the cemetery were concluded with Military honors conducted by the Conrad-Wager & Keene American Legion Post 164.
