Ivan Dale McPherson age 92. The long and eventful life of Ivan Dale (I.D.) McPherson, a life-long resident of Millington, ended peacefully Tuesday January 31, 2012.
The family has asked in lieu of flowers, contributions in Ivan's memory can be made to the Millington-Arbela Historical Society, P.O. Box 422, Millington, MI 48746.
Ivan was born in Millington on October 30, 1919 and was a 1937 graduate from Millington High School. He attended Business College in Battle Creek MI and worked briefly for the Social Security Administration in Baltimore MD, U.S. Air Corp at Packard Motor Co., Detroit, MI before enlisting in the U.S. Navy on January 7, 1942 during WW II. He was on Okinawa when the war ended and returned home on October 24, 1945. In April 1946 he started working for the Millington Truck Body Co. Inc of Millington MI and Huntington IN. He became General Manager in 1955 where he remained until his retirement in 1994. Ivan was a charter member of the Conrad-Wager & Keene American Legion Post 164 of Millington, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a life member of the Millington Masonic Lodge 470 and a charter member of the Millington - Arbela Historical Society serving as co-chairperson for the first 6 years. In addition to his family he enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, antique tools, and genealogy.
Ivan is survived by his children Judith and Kim Swanson of Dublin OH, Greg McPherson of North Smithfield, RH, and Kim and Robert Grisham Roselle IL; his grandchildren Patrick, Kathleen, Maureen, Margaret, Jessica, and Jay; great grandson Connor; good friends Clayton & Linda Betzing and Doris Webster. Ivan is preceded in death by his wife Rosemary, his parents, Harry & Myrtie McPherson and one sister.

As Ivan has requested cremation has taken place. A memorial service was held at the Hanlin Funeral Home on Saturday February 5, 2012 followed by military honors conducted by the Conrad-Wager & Keene American Legion Post #164. Ivan's ashes were then interred at the Millington Twp. Cemetery in Millington MI.
