Mr. Edward W. Schell of Caro, formerly of North Lake, passed away Friday February 24,2017, at the Heritage Hill Assisted Living in Caro, Michigan. Ed was 100 years old.
Edward was born in Deerfield Township near North Branch on June 08, 1916 to Ernest and Mayme Schell. He graduated from Fostoria High School and furthered his education at Tuscola County Normal, Central Michigan University and The University of Michigan. His early teaching days were at the Hopkins, Spring Hill and Otter Lake Schools. He then secured a position with the Millington Schools where he served as teacher, coach, athletic director, high school principal and assistant superintendent. He retired after forty years of service to education. Ed was known to be a man of his word, fair to all who knew him, and loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a great sportsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf. He was a lifelong member of the Fostoria United Methodist Church, the Millington Rotary Club, MEA, Easter Seal Society, Millington Historical Society and Community Center. He received many distinguished awards in his lifetime including the MSU Crystal Apple Outstanding Educator and Valley Forge Medal of Honor. He married his wife Alice in 1941, and they enjoyed 67 years of marriage. She preceded him in death in 2009. Edward was also preceded in death by brothers Russell and Clyde Daniel Schell and a sister Ann Adel Garner. Though Edward will be sadly missed, he will fondly be remembered as a kind and loving man with a wealth of knowledge and wisdom.
Ed leaves to cherish his memory a daughter Patsy (John) Presnell of Sandusky, son Timothy (Linda) Schell of Traverse City, 5 grandsons Joshua (Janel) Presnell, Jeremy (Courtney) Schell, Tyler (Heather) Schell, Jacob (Gretchen) Schell, Benjamin Schell, and 5 great grandchildren, a sister Agnus (Russ) Rader of Caro, as well as several nieces and nephews, friends and kind neighbors.
The Schell family will receive visitors at the Hanlin Funeral Home in Millington on Tuesday February 28,2017 from 3:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday March 01,2017. At 11:00 A.M. at the Millington United Methodist Church, with burial to follow in Deerfield Cemetery. Edward will lie in state at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. until time of service. Donations may be made to the Fostoria or Millington United Methodist Church and Millington Rotary Club. The Hanlin Funeral home are assisting with the arrangements for the family of Edward Schell.
