Mr. Bruce W. (Coach) Gardner of Millington passed from our world into God's Kingdom early Firday evening August 10th 2012 at his residence, Coach was 77.
Bruce W. Gardner was born in Alma, Michigan on November 19, 1934 and was the son of the late Herbert & Jeanette (Brown) Gardner. Bruce served our country during the Korean War in the US-Navy. On December 10, 1955 he married his wife of 56 years Doris C. Shepherd. After Bruce and Doris moved to Millington Bruce became employed with the Millington High School as a teacher, and a coach.
For many years he coached basket ball and football, Bruce retired from the Millington School System in 1985. Though he wasn't actively teaching he still managed to find time to assist in coaching both here in Millington and at a few neighboring schools. Bruce was a member of the Gideon International - Cass River Camp, Michigan Sports Sage Club, and served on several boards for the Assemblies of God Church Councils. Bruce was a diehard U of M fan, a true Millington Cardinal attending most of the Cardinal football games as a part of the North End Quarter Backs. On any given Friday night you would find Bruce standing among many of the teams alumni at the north end of the grid iron watching the Mighty Millington Cardinals. Bruce also loved playing golf, camping, and spending time with family and friends.
Bruce leaves his wife Doris, children, a daughter and son in-law, Denise & Mark Truett, two sons Dennis Gardner, and Dean & Robin Gardner. Grandchildren, Melanie Truett (Ben Hurst) Lena & Robert Shepherd, Heather Gardner, Tiffany Gardner, Derrick Gardner, Jessica Melendy, great grandchildren, Wesley, Brayden, and Natalie. Bruce also leaves a sister in-law and her husband Lois & David Vaughn, as well several nieces, and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the Hanlin Funeral Home in Millington on Tuesday from 1:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday August 15, 2012 at the Millington United Methodist Church. Bruce will lie instate at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 am until the services begin. The burial will follow at the Millington Twp. Cemetery. Pastor Wally Reames will deliver the funeral message and the closing prayers at the Cemetery.
Services at the Cemetery will conclude with Military Honors conducted by the Conrad-Wager & Keene American Legion Post164 of Millington.
