Michelle M. Kennard

Mrs. Michelle Marie Kennard, age 70, passed away on Saturday, January 25, 2025, in Galveston, Texas.

Michelle was born on July 14, 1954, in Estherville, Iowa, to Richard & Betty Sykes (nee Gere). She graduated from Birch Run High School and earned her nursing degree from Northern Michigan University. Before retirement, she worked as a nurse with St. Mary’s in Saginaw for over 42 years. She married David Kennard and together they had two children, Erik and Elaine. Michelle was a devoted member of St. Frances X Cabrini Parish in Vassar. She was active in the St. Frances Creative Sewing Ministry, where she found joy in creating handmade items for others and sharing fellowship with friends. Further, she loved working in the St. Frances Mission Store and anything to do with church. She also enjoyed traveling, casino trips, and spending time with her beloved family.

She is survived by her children, Erik (Jazman) Kennard and Elaine (Bill) Germain; grandchildren: Emily, Kaylee, Alec, and Carly; brothers, Mike (Rhonda) Sykes, Steven Sykes, and David (Tammy) Sykes; in-laws, Raymond & Deloris Kennard, Mike & Mary Kennard, Kim & Michael Cunningham, and Dale & Karen Becker; as well many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Michelle was preceded in death by her parents, Richard &Betty; former spouse, David Kennard; brother, Scott Sykes; and sister, Judith Weiss. Special thanks to cousin, Sue Bleuer, who was Michelle’s best friend and travel companion.

Visitation for Michelle will be at Hanlin Funeral Home in Vassar from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 3, 2025; a Nurse’s Honor Guard service will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Frances X Cabrini Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 4, 2025; additional visitation at church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of mass.
