Mr. Michael “Mike” Louis Maurer, 81, entered into eternal life on Friday, August 16, 2024, at Vassar Comfort Care.
Mike was born in Bad Axe, Michigan on September 26, 1942, to parents, Louis Michael & Margaret Jane (née Kelly) Maurer. He was raised in Elkton alongside his siblings and graduated from Laker High School. Mike honorably served in the U.S. Army in Germany. After returning from the Army, Mike married the love of his life, Katherine J. Baker in Pigeon, Michigan on January 25, 1969. Together they celebrated 55 years of marriage, countless memories, and raised their children. Before retirement, Mike worked for 30 years at Saginaw Steering Gear and for 9 years as a C&O railroad agent. Mike enjoyed playing cards, tennis, gardening, hunting, and fishing. Above all, Mike loved his family and grandchildren and the time he spent with them. He will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Kathie Maurer; children: Julie (Rick) Rizzo, Bonnie (Vince) Pawloske, and Steve (Sarah Alexander) Maurer; grandchildren: Brendan Rizzo, Jonathan Rizzo, Jacob Pawloske, Josh Pawloske, Kirsten Pawloske, Maggie Maurer, and Elias Maurer; siblings: Lawrence (Regina) Maurer, Richard (Jane) Maurer, Mary Ann (Chuck) Fournier, Marge Weidman, Grace (Mike) Krause, and Trudi (Mike) Lang; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Mike was preceded in death by his siblings: Jerry, Bill, Tom, and Judie; brothers-in-law, Roger Weidman and Fred Foulds; and sister-in-law, Wilma.
Mike’s family will welcome visitors to Hanlin Funeral Home in Vassar on Sunday, August 18, 2024, from 3-7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial for Mike will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 19, 2024, at St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish in Vassar, with visiting from 10 a.m. until the time of mass. Fr. Josepaul Pasala will preside. Rite of committal and military honors will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, August 19, 2024, in Riverside Cemetery, Vassar.
