Mary Evelyn Garrett, age 100, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2024, at Vassar Comfort Care. The family is eternally grateful for the wonderful care she received there.
Mary was born in Irvine, KY, on January 18, 1924, to Thomas Adams & Lillian Witt Adams. On December 26, 1942, she married Douglas "Doug" L. Garrett. They had one son, Billy D. Garrett, born on January 17, 1944.
While in Kentucky, Mary worked at Westinghouse in Richmond and at the Carhartt factory. The family moved to Michigan around 1953 where she worked at Comer & Fox Drug Store. She was then hired into AC with her husband, Doug. Before retirement, the family lived in Hartland, Flint, Fenton, and Hart Lake. Upon their retirement they moved back to Kentucky and to the family farm where she was often busy with many relatives and friends.
Doug & Mary celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1993. Sadly, Doug passed away in 1995, and Mary returned to Michigan in 1996. Upon her return to Michigan, she made lots of friends, joined the Millington United Methodist Church, the Quilt Club, Rebecca's, Red Hats, and went on lots of trips with her friends.
Mary lived a very full life here on earth. She made wonderful friends, and loved nothing more than cooking for family get-togethers, and putting her creative hands to work with sewing projects. Everyone loved Mary and she will be missed.
She is survived by her son, Bill (Sharon) Garrett; grandchildren: Denise (Ray) Olheiser, Doug (Christine) Garrett, Jeffrey (Kymber) Garrett; great-grandchildren: Jacob (Deanna) Garrett, Gavin Garrett, Ryan Biondo, Lindsey Biondo; extended grandchildren, Bryon (Gina) DeOrnellas, Brad (Dawn) DeOrnellas, Briana DeOrnellas, Dylan DeOrnellas, Brenden (Dawn) Villilobos; Chad (Anne) DeOrnellas, Barden DeOrnellas, Olivia DeOrnellas, and Eli DeOrnellas; great-great-grandchild; Lily; and niece, Vicky (Dean) of Kentucky.
Memorial donations may be directed to the Millington United Methodist Church or a charity of choice.
