Marvin H. Dowe went to his heavenly home on August 25, 2023, while at the Tuscola County Medical Care Facility at the age of 90.
He was born in Macomb Township, Michigan, on October 17, 1932, to Edward & Esther (Schade) Dowe. On June 19, 1954, he married Dorothy Gettel at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Bach, Michigan. Marv moved his family to Vassar in 1960 and bought the Standard Gas Station, he retired from Furstenberg Building Center in Frankenmuth. After retiring he enjoyed spending winter months in New Port Richey, Florida. Marv was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church where he served as a trustee and ushered for many years. He was a US-Naval Veteran serving as a medic during the Korean War. Marv was a member of VFW – Post 2724, American Legion Post 150, and served with the American Legion Color Guard. Very active within the community Marv coached Pony League baseball, served on the Vassar Fair Board, was a member of the Vassar Lions Club, and during the football season Marv worked for 40 years on the chain gang. He enjoyed watching his sons and grandchildren play football. Marv served for 30 years in the City of Vassar Fire Dept., he was also very active in the Michigan Firemen's Association and was a past President of the association. He also worked part-time with the Vassar Police Dept.
Marv leaves his wife of 69 years Dorothy. Children: James (Janet) Dowe, Mark (Melanie) Dowe, Vickie (Michael) Much and David (Elizabeth) Dowe, Nine Grandchildren, 4-Step Grandchildren, 16 Grandchildren, six Step-Greatgrandchildren. He also leaves a brother and sister in-law; Harold (Connie) Dowe, a sister in-law Carol Mathis, as well as other extended family and friends. Marv is preceded in death by his parents, his mother and father in-law; Albert & Amanda Gettel, a daughter in-law Dawn Dowe, many brothers in-law, and sisters in-law.
Friends may call at the Hanlin Funeral Home in Vassar, Michigan [1148 W. Saginaw Rd] on Tuesday August 29, 2023, from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm. There will be a Fire Department Tribute at 7:00 pm Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
Marv will lie instate on Wednesday morning August 30, 2023, at the St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Vassar, MI from 10:00 am until services begin. Funeral services for Marv will be held on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, at the St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Vassar, MI, beginning at 11:00 am. With burial to follow at the Riverside Cemetery in Vassar, Michigan.
