MILLINGTON – Kirsten Colleen (Kroll) Platt our faithful, always positive, caring and loving wife, mother, grandmother “Nana”, daughter, sister, aunt and friend to many was called to her heavenly home in the early morning hours of February 1, 2022 at McLaren Bay Region. She was surrounded by close family members after her long and courageous battle with cancer, she was 57.
Kirsten Colleen Kroll was born on October 11, 1964, in Lancaster, CA to parents Charles and Elinor (Forsyth) Kroll. She attended Grace Lutheran elementary in CA, Lake Braddock in VA, graduated from Weber High School in Utah, earned her 1st bachelor’s degree in Fitness and Lifestyle Management from University of Utah and earned a 2nd bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Saginaw Valley State University after moving to Michigan.
Kirsten married the love of her life Jeff Platt on August 1, 1987 after a 6 year cross country relationship. They met when they were 16 at her sister’s wedding in August 1981. From the day they met the longest time they spent apart was 10 months. They traveled both ways to spend time together as their relationship continued to grow.
Kirsten and Jeff were an example of what building a foundation of friendship and true love was all about. Together they celebrated 34 years of marriage and were blessed with two children Brittany and Luke. Five years ago they were blessed with their 1st grandchild Emilia “Emi” Holden who will welcome a baby brother due in May. “Nana” Kirsten was filled with joy to see this coming grandchild in an ultrasound recently.
Kirsten absolutely loved being a “Nana” and held this position not only with her own grandchild but with other children too. She was a faith filled child of God and it showed in everything she did. Her loving heart and beautiful smile had no boundaries and strangers were only friends she had not met.
Kirsten was creative and enjoyed crafting; she made beautiful homemade gifts and cards which she shared with friends. She had a passion for helping others not just in her nursing career but also everyday life encounters. She recently stopped and brought hot chocolate and protein bars for a road crew working out in the frigid cold. She was a relationship builder with the gift for listening and understanding. She loved traveling and had recently enjoyed a week in Jamaica making memories which will undoubtedly be shared around the campfire this summer.
Kirsten recently retired after 20+ years of nursing due to cancer treatments and to spend more quality time with her loving husband, family and friends who were her greatest treasures. She lived one of her daddy’s favorite phrases of “work hard then play harder” by prioritizing conversation, laughter, camping and traveling as she loved being outdoors.
Kirsten was welcomed with open arms by her Heavenly Father and her father in Heaven, Charles Kroll who preceded her in death (February 2013).
Kirsten leaves to cherish her memory and is forever loved by her husband Jeff Platt; daughter, Brittany (Matt) Holden; son, Luke (Kelsey) Platt; grandchildren Emi and baby Eli Holden; her mother Elinor Kroll; brothers, Charles (LeeAndra) Kroll and Darwin (Charlotte) Kroll; sister, Jacquelyn (Kevin) Petzold; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, special childhood friend Krista (Brandt) Hanlon and so many other wonderful friends, co-workers and exercise buddies who shared a special place in her life.
The family will welcome friends at Hanlin Funeral Home on Sunday, February 6, 2022, from 2-7 p.m. A service to celebrate Kirsten’s life will begin at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 7, 2022, at St. Martin Lutheran Church where she and Jeff had been attending (10995 Canada Rd., Birch Run, MI 48415); additional visitation will be available at 10 a.m. and lasting until the time of service.
