Karen D. Sergent

Mrs. Karen Dawn Sergent, age 66, our loving, dedicated, and caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 19, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.

Karen was born in Flint, Michigan on November 11, 1957, to John & Ruby (Steele) McClenathen. She was one of 10 children and graduated from Millington High School with the class of 1976. Karen married Robert “Bob” Sergent and together they welcomed three daughters: Candice, Amanda, and Christa. Karen had a long career in retail sales, she started her career with Frankenmuth Bavarian Inn Motorlodge where she worked her way up to management, leaving after 15 years.  Before retirement, she had most recently worked with Walmart for over 20 years. Karen loved to read, watch Christmas and Hallmark movies, and was a huge fan of the singer, Adam Levine. Further, she liked to tend to her flower beds and work in her yard. She had a love of animals, especially her dogs and cat. Above all, Karen loved her family and the time she spent with them. She will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her husband, Bob; daughters: Candice (Jon Hirzel) Tatro, Amanda (Matt) Lantzy, and Christa Louks; grandchildren: Nicholas (Chey Maloczewski) Corrigan, Jeremy (Breanna Rysco) Corrigan, Dakota Tatro, Shianne Tatro, Savannah Tatro, Caitlin (Alex) Bartsoff, Lily Hanna Sergent, and AJ Louks; great-grandchildren: Waylon Bartsoff, Sophia Palmer, Ramon Cosme, Andrew Cosme, and Ny’ova Ridgell; mother, Ruby McClenathen; siblings: Penny McClenathen, Virgil (Chris) McClenathen, Bud (Carrie) McClenathen, Jim (Denniece) McClenathen, Chuck Foster, Virginia (Charlie) Buchner, Gloria (George) Rapson, and Denise (John) Glynn; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, John McClenathen; sister, Rosalyn McClenathen; in-laws, Norwood & Wanda Sergent; and nephew, Mathew Glynn.

A celebration of Karen’s life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at the Flint Motorcycle Club (9244 Farrand Rd, Otisville, MI 48463). 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice or to the family in c/o of Bob Sergent.
