Joanie L. Petty

Mrs. Joanie Lee Petty, aged 75, passed away on Monday, February 17, 2025.

Joanie was born in Saginaw, Michigan, on March 26, 1949, to George & Marjorie "Marge" Swaffer (née Blue). On January 8, 1972, she married the love-of-her-life, Riley W. Petty. Together they shared countless memories, raised their children, and celebrated 53 years of marriage. Joanie loved gardening, picking blackberries, morel mushroom hunting, fishing, drawing, painting, word searches, horror movies, and animals; her favorite being squirrels, she loved watching them. Her artistic talents led her to take an art class through the Disney Program. Before retirement, she worked at an elder care facility in Frankenmuth for many years. Afterwards, she became a stay-at-home mom. Above all, she loved her family and was always making sure we were all taken care of. She was willing to help anyone in need.

She is survived by her husband, Riley Petty; children, Victoria (Jesse) Gabrysiak, Wayne Petty, and Michael Petty; son-in-law, Caleb Shonk; grandchildren: AJ Petty, Emily Petty, Carlen Shonk, Sabrina Petty, and Corrie Petty.

Joanie was preceded in death by her parents, George & Marge Swaffer; son, Riley William Petty, Jr.; and daughter, Tammy Shonk.

Funeral services for Joanie will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Hanlin Funeral Home in Vassar; visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. and last until the time of service. Rev. Matthew Arnold will officiate.

Memorial donations may be directed to the Cass River Pet Friendz or Tuscola County Animal Shelter.
