Jacob Andrew Shufelt, age 9, our selfless, courageous, smart, determined, and loving son, brother, grandson, great-grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend, completed his earthly journey and earned his superhero cape on Friday, September 3, 2021, at home surrounded by his loving family.
Jake was born on February 28, 2012, to his loving parents Andrew and Jennifer (Allison) Shufelt at Hurley Hospital in Flint. He was the proud big brother to his sister, Kaleigh, and enjoyed attending the same elementary school with her. Jake was passionate about playing Fortnite, building LEGOS, swinging his golf club, and idolizing his Marvel Superheroes, especially Iron Man and Black Panther. When he wasn’t busy saving the world, he could be found relaxing with his favorite shows DudePerfect, Big City Greens, and Spy Ninjas. Above all, Jacob loved to be with his family and friends. Just like his Marvel heroes, Jake was an inspiration to those around him as he fought hard against leukemia. His selfless character, unwavering determination, and smile will not be forgotten.
Jacob is forever loved by his parents, Andrew and Jennifer Shufelt; sister, Kaleigh Shufelt; grandparents; great-grandparents, Barbara Allison and Beverly (Ray) Austin; “Jakey’s Squad”; cousins: Evan, Ashlynn, Elyssa, Calvin, Valerie, Ayden, Atlas, Airo, Allison, Mackenzie, Raelynn, Jessica, Mya, and Avery Jackson; as well many aunts and uncles, and the numerous friends he met and had a profound impact on through his journey.
Welcoming their superhero to heaven are his infant sister, Samantha Shufelt; and great-grandparents Walter Allison, Henry & Helen Krol, and Helga Shufelt.
The family will welcome family and friends to Hanlin Funeral Home (4823 Main St., Millington, MI 48746) on Thursday, Sept. 9, 2021, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. and again on Friday, Sept. 10, 2021, from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Services to celebrate Jake's life will be held at the Millington Church of God at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2021; with visitation for the public beginning at 10 a.m. Pastor April Crump will preside. Afterwards, Jacob will be laid to rest in Millington Township Cemetery.
Those wishing to make memorial contributions in Jake’s name may do so to the family, in care of Mrs. Jennifer Shufelt.
