Helen Alvord

MILLINGTON – Helen Lea Alvord passed away on June 6, 2022. She was 80.

Helen was born on February 16, 1942, to the late Dewey and Wilda (Oliver) Woodrow. Helen attended Otterlake High School and graduated with the class of ’60. After high school she married the love of her life Donald Alvord on September 10, 1960. Together they have celebrated 61 years of marriage. She was a long-time member of the Millington United Methodist Church where she helped do so many things. She also loved being apart of the Millington Historical Society. Helen was an amazing cook, known for always keep her lawn and garden looking pristine. Helen loved sitting out on her porch watching the birds and looking at her beautiful garden. Most of all she enjoyed being with her family and friends. She will be so dearly missed.

Those left to cherish her memory are husband: Donald Alvord, her three boys: Tom (Teresa) Alvord, John (Jin) Alvord, and Joe (Rana) Alvord. Four grandchildren, Ellie, Ashley, Waylon, and Byron. Her sister Alene Acre. As well as several nieces, nephews, extended family, and many friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother Jim Woodrow.

The family will receive guests on Thursday, June 9, 2022, from 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Hanlin Funeral Home (4823 Main St. Millington, MI 48746). Funeral services for Helen will follow on Friday, June 10, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Pineview Mennonite Church (4415 Swaffer Rd., Vassar, MI 48746); additional visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Pastor Roger Hazen will preside. Afterwards, Helen will be laid to rest within Millington Township Cemetery.
