Gretchen Lynn Gohsman, dear friend and sister, passed away Friday, February 15, 2013, at St. Mary's of Michigan Medical Center in Saginaw. Born on February 4, 1961, to the late Chuck and Helen (Luecke) Gohsman, she was 52. She married Christopher Boyd in January 2009; he preceded her in death.
A lifelong resident of Vassar, Gretchen was a true and beloved friend to many. She graduated from Michigan State University and was an avid Spartan fan. Many will remember her award-winning chili. As Queen of Everything, she liked to hold court with family and friends, and enjoyed regular get-togethers with her divas-in-waiting. To her, Memphis was the happiest place on earth and she visited often. Music and the blues were a huge part of who she was and she loved to share that passion with others. She was a volunteer and supporter of The Juke Joint on CMU Public Radio for many years. She worked at The Saginaw News for 20-plus years and was most recently employed at Andersen Eye Associates in Saginaw.
Gretchen is survived by brother Terry (Robyn) Gohsman of Virginia, sister Karen (Jerry) Oprea of Vassar, sister Marlene Gohsman of Battle Creek and stepsons Sam and Joe Boyd. Also surviving her are niece and nephews Kari (Jon) Miskelly, Chris Oprea, Andrew Oprea and Travis Gohsman - the youth of America - and her beloved dog Luther, along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
