Gordon Arnold Parker passed away peacefully at home and went to be with His Lord and Savior on June 7, 2020. He was 84 years old.
Gordon was the son of Arnold and Myrtle Parker, born and raised in Flint, Michigan.
He served in the National Guard for seven years and was one of the servicemen activated when the big tornado hit Flint in 1953.
He married the love of his life, Ellen Barkley, in 1957. Gordon and Ellen moved from their home in Flint to Millington to begin their additional passion as owners and operators of Parker's Orchard for the next fifty years. They are known and loved by all of their neighbors and customers and became known for their annual October Harvest Festival which they ran successfully for eleven years. Gordon was known as the “Apple man” and made the best cider around.
Gordon worked for Consumers Power Company in Flint and retired as a gas distribution supervisor after 42 years of service.
Gordon was a member of First Baptist Church in Vassar, Michigan for over 50 years where he served for many of those years as a youth leader and a deacon.
Gordon is survived by his loving wife; Ellen, three loving children; Michael (Laurie) Parker of Apex, North Carolina, Michele (Federico) Sanchez of Sterling Heights, Michigan and Kimberly (Peter) Foxwell of Columbus, Michigan; seven grandchildren; Benjamin, Ryan, and Nathan Sanchez, Jamie and Kalie Foxwell, and Adam and Julia Parker; three great grandchildren; Dominic, Selah and Grace, his brother Ronald (JoAnn) Parker of Davison, Michigan, and sister Nancy (Gary) Rutledge of Clarkston, Michigan. Gordon is preceded in death by his grandson, Michael Foxwell and his parents.
Gordon's love of his Heavenly Father and his Godly example will be sorely missed by all. His wife, family, and his many friends will miss his genuine friendship and sense of humor.
The Parker Family would like to invite friends and family to pay their respects at the Hanlin Funeral Home in Millington. Viewing will take place from 3-7 p.m. on Thursday, June 11, 2020. Due to current circumstances, face masks must be worn and social distancing rules apply, in compliance with the public safety standards. The family is very understanding for those uncomfortable with attending because of the Covid restrictions
For this reason also, the memorial service will be outside at the Millington Township Cemetery at 11:00am on Friday, June 12, 2020. Limited seating will be available.
