Gerald (Gerry) Loudon

October 9, 1939 — January 5, 2024

Millington

Gerald (Gerry) Loudon, age 84, of Millington passed away Friday, January 5, 2024.

Gerry was born on October 9th, 1939, in Shenandoah, Iowa to the late Gavin and Helen (Chapman) Loudon. He was born the youngest of six siblings when the family was struggling their way out of the Great Depression. His father passed away suddenly while at work when Gerry was just 12 years old. At that young age he learned how to weld and his journey in the workforce began and led him down several paths.

One path led him to Michigan where he met and married Margaret (Peggy) Frock and together they had 4 children.

His life is an incredible list of accomplishments one his family is proud of. He moved with family to Missouri and there he welded on the world’s largest earth mover. He went to Australia to work on a bridge and the family was preparing to move there, when he came back and said Australia was no place to raise a family. The family moved to Durand and then finally settled in Millington. It was after making the move to Millington he took the leap and decided to open his own company- Gerald G Loudon Company. He proudly built the structural steel for the Wolverine Telephone Company, the former Frankenmuth Bank and the Millington High School to name a few. He was a collector of anything and everything- and knew it all had a purpose!

His passions were old cars. Old Cadillacs were his great joy and he loved going out for drives. He filled his years of retirement tinkering and building anything and everything. His Egg Harbor boat kept him busy and that old saying "a boat is a wooden hole in the water you throw money in" - he agreed, but oh how he loved his boat. He was always one for a beer or two-and enjoyed hanging out at the Vassar Eagle’s for his morning coffee with friends sharing stories and having a laugh and the camaraderie.

Gerry will be greatly missed by all. His spirit, sometimes stubbornness, and love for telling stories will always be remembered and carried on by his family and friends.

Left to carry on his legacy- and cherish his memory are his children: Gerry (Gib) and Tammy Loudon, Harley (Tina) and Cliff Aulbert, Gavin (Bud) Loudon, Gregg Loudon and Patti Vollweiler, 8 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. Two sisters, Suzanne Blaksley and Jean Gentry as well as extended family and friends. His buddy and drinking partner- Ira Ewald.

Gerry was preceded in death by his parents, 4 of his siblings, his wife Peggy and friends he had met through life’s journey.

The family would like to thank the staff at Covenant Glen of Frankenmuth for the love, care and compassion they showed during Gerry’s stay with them.

The family is honoring Gerry’s wishes of no service and ask you remember him by taking time to share a cup of coffee with a friend, toasting him with a beer the next time you have one and remembering to enjoy life and do the things you love most.

Kindly share a memory with Gerry's family in the guestbook below.
