Gerald Anthony Boyer, 82, of Vassar, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 4, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.


Gerald was born in Flint on June 9, 1940, to parents Orville & Leona (Lenhart) Boyer. He was 7th in-line of 12 siblings and his siblings all agree he was the kindest, most sweetest person and always there for his family. Gerald graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic High School in 1958. He honorably served in the US Army from 1958-1962. Gerald met the love of his life Sandy through his sister Bonnie and that led to their marriage on February 9th, 1963. Together they shared 45 years of marriage and celebrated countless memories with their four children. Further, Gerald worked and retired from General Motors as a truck driver. He was an avid reader, enjoyed watching westerns, as well as camping, hunting, and snowmobiling. Above all, he loved to spend time with his family.

He is survived by his children: Lori (Scott) Luebbert, Lisa (Mike) Boyer, Leslie Boyer, Lynette (Bill) Scannell; grandchildren: Matt (Amber), Marc (Jessica), Kayla, Meredith, Scott, Ian, Samantha, Ryan (Tiffany), Aaron, Lauren, Sarah, and Cassidy; great-grandchildren: Alayna, Alexah, Alivia, Lucas, Matthew, River, Isaac, Lilyana, Casimir, Margot, Ayden, Leila, Wyatt, and Paislee; Siblings: Marie Pallagi, Nancy Boyer (Bob), Susie (Jerry) Hutto, Armand (Rosemary) Boyer, Leon (Joan) Boyer and Sharon Guza; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Gerald is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sandy; Parents: Orville and Leona Boyer, Siblings: Allen Boyer, Terry Boyer, Bonnie Stocker, Kathleen Boyer, and Theresa Walker; In-laws Alex Pallagi, Tony Walker, Burt Stocker, Sue Boyer, Joni Boyer; Nephew: Douglas Walker; Great friends Harvey and Sandy Furze.

Gerald's memorial mass will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, June 26, 2023 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church; visitation at church from 12 p.m. until the time of mass. Immediately following, Gerald will be placed to rest at St. John Cemetery, next to his wife, Sandy. After the cemetery services, a luncheon will be hosted at the St. John Activity Center.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Bentley Manor #3 staff Shana, Felicia, Samantha, Noah (a.k.a. Scotty), Janet, Gwynn, and Amanda for their compassionate care of Gerald. As well as VNA hospice staff Odessa, Ashley, Lisa, Jerry, Amber, David, Carly, and Jennifer.
