Georgene (Stewart) Williams

Georgene L. (Stewart) Williams of Vassar, Michigan; our beloved mother and wife passed away Tuesday October 8, 2019, at the age of 77.

Georgene was born on March 29, 1942 in Saginaw, Michigan and was the daughter of the late Vern and Louise (Safford) Stewart.  On May 2, 1962, Georgene married John Williams, and together they have celebrated 57 year of marriage.  In her younger days she went to business school.  Georgene landed a job with WKNX radio station in Saginaw, Michigan where she set up the programs and commercials.  She became a stay at home mom when Karen was 4 and Paul was born.  Later she went to work for Vassar Public Schools as a Title 1 Aide and then was hired as the Secretary of Townsend North Elementary School where she retired after 18 years of employment. Georgene was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Vassar, MI. She was a member of the Pinkerton Rd Knitting Club. Georgene loved traveling and her & John saw a lot.She enjoyed road trips, spending time with family.  She loved cats, coffee, and pie! She also had a love for the beach and Caseville, MI. Georgene and her husband became certified divers and enjoyed diving in the Cayman Islands. She was so thoughtful, kind, and good to everyone she met.

Georgene leaves to cherish her memory her husband John.  She leaves also a daughter and son in-law; Karen (Ron) Opperman.  Her four grandchildren; Grant, Nolan, Hillary (Jeff) Opperman-Wickings and Hannah Opperman.  Georgene leaves her siblings; Evart (Cheryl) Stewart, Steve (Pam) Aranyos, Greg (Lisa) Aranyos, nieces and nephews; Tracey, Troy, Heather, Emily, Zach, Cole, and Max. a sister in law and her husband; Penny (Jim) Rooks.  She leaves also other extended family and friends including her wonderful loving care givers; Beth, Penny, Mary Ann, Abbey, Alley, Evie, Nastasha, Kyla, and Lexi. Besides her parents Georgene is preceded in death by; a son Paul E. Williams, and a sister Maryeln Streeter.

On Sunday October 27, 2019 the Williams family will receive friends at the Hanlin Funeral Home in Millington, MI for a time of sharing and remembering from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm,  Beginning at 2:00 pm a celebration of Georgene’s life will begin.  Hanlin Funeral Home has been assisting the family with arrangements; in keeping with Georgene’s wishes, cremation has taken place with a private burial of her urn.
