Florence D. Stilley

Mrs. Florence “Flo” D. Stilley, 90, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 11, 2024.

She was born on May 23, 1933, in Dearborn, Michigan, to Louis & Florence (Walker) Wetzel. After graduating high school, Flo attended Michigan State University. She married Richard Stilley. Flo worked several careers such as a piano teacher and with Grand Trunk Railroad. However, her gift and passion for animals led her to be a dog trainer, run a successful horse business, and a western wear business for 24 years, “Stilley’s Western Wear”. She excelled at the highest level of show horses with a horse she raised that won the world! She also raised show dogs, including obedience and conformation. 

Flo was a good friend to many. She told it like it was, did things the way she wanted to, and didn’t mind agreeing to disagree. Her deteriorating eyesight didn’t hinder her love for life. Flo’s love for animals resulted in many rescues and hours of special attention & care. She has been described as feisty and always the life of the party. She will truly be missed by so many family and friends.

Flo is survived by her daughter, Bonnie (Ronald) Carruthers; grandchildren: Jeff (Joannie) Rutter, Ryan (Christie) Harris, James Rowe, and Tyler Rowe; great-grandchildren: Taylor, Lexi, Lucas, Lily, Maddie, and Charlie; and brother, Lewis Wetzel.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Florence Wetzel; father, Leith Wetzel; husband, Richard Stilley; daughter, Debra; son, James; and brother, Fritz Wetzel.
