Mrs. Eleanor Ruth (Remein) Gleason of Westland, Michigan formerly of Vassar, Michigan passed away late Thursday evening December 13, 2018, at the age of 97.
Eleanor was born in Rochester, New York and was the daughter of the late Marinus J. and Mamie (VandenBergh) Remein. In 1934 Eleanor along with her family moved to Michigan. As a young lady she attended Lapeer County Normal and became a rural school teacher. Eleanor taught in many of the Lapeer, Michigan and Hope, Michigan rural schools. She loved using her talents to write poetry and music. She also enjoyed reading and singing. Through the years Eleanor played the piano for her church. When Eleanor lived in Vassar, she along with her family attended the First Baptist Church of Vassar.
Eleanor leaves her family to cherish her memory. Her four children Sharon (Roger) Stackhouse, Linda (Bruce) Mitchell, Ruth Ann (Robert Russell), and Doug (Janey) Gleason. She also leaves 14 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, a sister, Dorothy (Ronald) Moore, several nieces, nephews, and extended family. Besides her parents Eleanor is preceded in death by her husband Carl, a son-in-law Brian Bush, a great grandson Kyle, and a brother Ted Remein.
The Gleason family will receive friends at the Hanlin Funeral Home in Millington, MI on Sunday December 16, 2018 from 1:00 pm until 7:00 pm and on Monday from 10:00 am until the services begin. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 17, 2018 at 11:00 am at the Hanlin Funeral Home, with the burial to follow at the Millington Township Cemetery. Pastor Russell Schmidt will deliver the eulogy, funeral message and the closing prayer at the cemetery. Memorial Gifts of Remembrance can be directed to a charity of one’s choice.
