Edna Sarah Jaynes, age 89, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 5, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

Edna was born in Flint, Michigan on July 6, 1934, to parents Howard & Elizabeth (nee Jensen) Gillies. She was raised in Millington alongside her siblings and graduated from Millington High School. Before retirement in 1996, Edna was a clerical worker with the State of Michigan’s Department of Corrections. On October 7, 1960, Edna married the love of her life, Milton E. Jaynes, in Brown City, Michigan. Together they shared 53 years of marriage, raising their children, and countless memories before Milton’s passing in 2013. Edna had many passions such as painting, drawing, and singing. Her and Milton travelled all around the United States, and she especially enjoyed trips to Florida, and Canada. She liked to spend her time reading and with her beloved family. Edna had great faith and was a member of the Vassar Church of the Nazarene. Further, she was involved in Habitat for Humanity, the Eastern Stars, and a women’s group in Kentucky.

Edna is forever loved by her daughter, Catherine Richardson; son, M. David Jaynes and wife, Cindy; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; sister, Lucille; brother, Archie; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Milton; daughter, Elizabeth Moore; and siblings: Anna, Gladys, Donald, Kathy, Agnus, James, Michael, and Edith.

Edna’s family will welcome visitors to Hanlin Funeral Home – Vassar on Friday, February 9, 2024, from 3-7 p.m. Funeral services will be at the funeral home on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at 11 a.m.; additional visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Afterwards, Edna will be laid to rest next to her husband, Milton, at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.

Donations in Edna’s memory may be directed to the Vassar Church of the Nazarene.
