Dorothy (Carruthers) Kline

September 22, 1926 — March 7, 2022

Dorothy “Kathy” Carruthers Kline, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2022.
Kathy was born in Standish, MI to Grant and Hazel (Hastings) Carruthers on September 22, 1926, the fifth of six siblings.
She was married to Elwin (Al) Kline on May 1, 1951, noting that she “saw a good-looking man in green pants and had to know who that was!” when they started working at Kroger.
Starting out together in Virginia with her Marine, they eventually moved to Buell Rd in Millington for the majority of their 59 years together. Al preceded Kathy in death in 2010.
She is greatly missed and is survived by her five children: Jeanne (Brian) Vuillemot, Brenda Kline, twins-Randy (Suzanne) Kline and Rhonda Kline, and Ellen (Mitch) Perry.
Kathy has six grandchildren: Kelly (Tom) Coe, Grant (Jenn) Vuillemot, Chad (Ashlee) Kline, Stephanie (Carlos) Contreras, Logan (Elenie) Perry, and Hunter Perry. She is also blessed with six great-grandchildren: Isaac, Lorenzo, and Emmalina Contreras, twins-Alexander and Elwin Vuillemot, and Elizabeth Perry.  “Aunt Katie” is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Kathy enjoyed many years of activities with a multitude of dear friends in the American Legion and Auxiliary post in Millington and all across Michigan for veteran’s causes and the America they were dedicated to and believed in. Through the years Kathy worked as an LPN in a maternity ward and in a convalescent center, she also worked for Kroger, The Millington Herald, Kmart, The Exit Restaurant and Hotel, Meals on Wheels, and was a foster parent and senior citizen caregiver. Kathy made many new and caring friends when she moved to Caro Senior Commons in 2013 and Charter Senior Assisted Living in Bay City in July, 2021.  She loved feeding the birds and the squirrels, visiting the casino, playing scrabble, hot coffee with friends and family, and her “Grand-dog Moose” who snuggled with Kathy during visits for the last 5 years which made many residents smile. “Family was everything” she said, and visitors, especially overnight, would make her day! In her 95.5 blessed years she traveled to numerous states, the UP, and a once in a lifetime trip to Israel. She kept her memories alive with hundreds of photographs to share.

Preceded by her parents and husband, Kathy has seen many pass and we are sure she is celebrating in heaven as we speak, with Al, brothers Jess and Buck (Hilde) Carruthers, and sisters Hope Carruthers, Noel (Al) Hart, and Jean (John) Capp.  The family sincerely thanks those individuals who befriended and helped Kathy in her advanced age at Caro Senior Commons, Charter Senior Living, Americans Hospice and Nurse Nancy, all whom provided nurturing and respectful quality care.

Visitation will be from noon to 3pm, immediately followed by the memorial service at Hanlin Funeral Home in Millington on Friday March 11, 2022.Kathy will be laid to rest joining Al, at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly Michigan. In lieu of flowers, donations to Americans Hospice are greatly appreciated:AHHC2575 McLeod Saginaw MI 48604
