It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Darin Michael Coward, fondly known to many as "Uncle Darin," who left us unexpectedly on Thursday, August 15, 2024, in Newport News, Virginia. Born on October 13, 1976, in Flint, Michigan, Darin touched the lives of many during his 47 years among us, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, love, humor, and kindness.

Darin dedicated over 23 years of his career at Colonial Williamsburg, where he proudly served as the Rooms Operations Manager at the Woodlands Hotel. His professional journey was marked by a strong commitment to hospitality and a genuine desire to ensure that others felt welcome and cared for. Colleagues and guests alike admired his sociable and big-hearted nature, which made him not just an employee but a cherished friend to many. As one coworker shared, "He always greeted you with a smile, always asked how you were doing and would go above and beyond his responsibilities working with employees or guests. He had a heart of gold. He was as genuine and authentic as anyone could be. If you knew Darin, you liked Darin".

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Darin was a devoted caregiver who gave of himself willingly and generously to the wellbeing of those he loved. His nurturing spirit was evident not only in his work but also in his relationships with family and friends. Those who knew him would describe him as warm, witty, and everyone's best friend—traits that drew people to him effortlessly. He had a knack for making everyone feel special and valued, leaving an indelible mark on their hearts.

Darin was a graduate of Millington High School, class of 1995, and throughout his life, he embraced various hobbies and interests that brought him joy. He was passionate about music, horses, gardening, canning, and traveling, often engaging in these pursuits with an infectious enthusiasm that radiated to everyone around him.

Darin was a beloved son to his father, Mike Coward, and cherished brother to Dan (Heather) Coward, Dennis Coward, and Dana (Tim) Baker. He was a proud uncle to Timothy Baker, Tanner Baker, and Hunter Suttle, and to his niece, Madeline Lopera; a treasured lifelong friend to Sandi Muska and Kelly Adolph. His furry companion, Mr. Tiger, was a special part of his life, providing comfort and companionship over the years. Darin shared his life not just with relatives, but with numerous close friends whom he welcomed as family.

Darin was predeceased by his beloved mother, Sharon Coward, and dearest childhood friend, Amy Hancock.

Those desiring may direct memorial gifts to ASPCA or Cass River Pet Friendz.

As we reflect on the warmth he brought to our lives, we are reminded that although he has left us physically, his spirit will forever reside in our hearts. Darin was a beacon of love and joy, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
