Clair “Bo” Sheffer 88 of Millington passed away early Tuesday morning July 24, 2018 Clair” Bo” Sheffer was called home joining his beloved Jo once again. Bo was 88.
It seems just yesterday a young airman and his blushing bride were being celebrated by the Arizona governor on their wedding day. Born November 26, 1929 Clair was youngest of six and was the last living member of his family. He married Joan Adams on August 15, 1950 in Flagstaff Arizona. They would spend 65 years together until her death on August 16, 2015. His secret to along marriage? His workshop/ garage which was his personal space. Together they parented three children in their self-built home overlooking Murphy Lake, which they dearly loved. There they joined neighbors in a home open to all and the center of much neighborhood activity. After his service in the Air Force where his contribution included a new PBX system in the White House, Bo re-joined Michigan Bell Telephone where he finished his career as a key trouble shooter for large company phone systems.
You could usually find Bo and Jo regularly pon-tooning the lake in the evening, enjoying nighttime Bass fishing or just sharing in communal lake life. The kids, were called for dinner with his shrill whistle, audible throughout the neighborhood. His home was his castle, but with Joan’s passing in 2015, he would sit on the lake porch and lament her absence. He had visited his beloved Jo daily without fail during her nursing home stay where her caregivers all knew him by name. As Bo’s health failed each of the children supported him in different ways, Nancy organizing his affairs, Marcy living with him for 5 years and finally Gary and Barbie welcoming him into their home and visiting him in the nursing home. Also, of note was special friend Dave Atwood, a regular visitor to the Sheffer home.
Bo is survived by his children, Nancy (Tom) Sheffer-Irwin, Gary (Barbie Lawrence) Sheffer and Marcy (Mark Sprygada) LeMaster.
His life will be celebrated Friday July 27, 2018 at the Hanlin Funeral Home in Millington, Michigan where friends and family will join at 1 PM. Military Honors will be conducted by the Conrad-Wager & Keene American Legion Post # 164 and will conclude the services. The family will then honor Bo’s request and cremation will take place.
