Charles A. Hancock

Lifelong Millington resident Charles Albert Hancock passed away Tuesday afternoon December 12, 2023 at the age of 71 at Covenant Hospital, Saginaw. The son of the Ruth (Rockentine) and Floyd E. Hancock, Charles was born on February 15, 1952 and was a 1970 graduate of Millington High School. He received his B.A. in Education from Central Michigan University. Charles taught English and Speech at Millington High School for over 30 years, retiring in 2011. Charles was also the Millington Michigan Education Association teacher’s union steward and he traveled all over the Michigan Thumb assisting teachers with contract negotiations.


Charles grew up at Murphy Lake where his love of nature was born through treks through the state forest and exploring creeks and all the nature that his beloved Murphy Lake offered. He knew where the best wild mushrooms and the rarest wild flowers could be found. Charles loved teaching at Millington, working in his garden, history (especially Michigan History), and his cat Charlotte. He made the best Christmas cookies and pumpkin pies and was always ready to help his friends.

 
Charles is survived by his sisters Rebecca (Becky) Hancock, Kari Carlisle, and Kristine & husband Raleigh Simpson, his brother Floyd Jr. (Arch) & wife Mary Hancock and sister-in-law Marilyn Hancock; Nephews: Charles Woodruff, Rick & wife Celeste Woodruff, Eric Hancock, Michael & wife Teresa Hancock-Parmer and Nieces: Becky & husband Trent Middleton and Lori & husband Kevin Smith, and dear friends Jack & Linda Reade, Cindy (Muntin) Willson, and GeorgeAnn Muntin.


Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Ruth, his brother Greg, his nephews Greggy Hancock, Cody Carlisle, and Robert Woodruff and niece Amy Hancock.


Memorials may be given in remembrance of Charles to the Millington-Arbela Historical society, where Charles was an active member and Vice President at the time of his passing. Charles is dearly missed by those who loved him.

Charles' family will welcome friends and neighbors to Hanlin Funeral Home - Millington on Sunday, December 17, 2023 from 3-7 p.m. Funeral services for Charles will be held on Monday, December 18, 2023 at 11 a.m. at the Millington United Methodist Church (9020 State Rd, Millington, MI 48746); visitation at church from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Interment to follow in Millington Twp. Cemetery.
