Bruce VanHorn

Bruce Raymond Van Horn of Vassar, Michigan passed away on Wednesday October 20, 2021, with his family at his side, at the age of 78.

Bruce was born in Millington, Michigan on April 4, 1943, and was the son of the late Warren and Maude (Sutherland) VanHorn.  Bruce graduated from Vassar High in 1961. On November 26, 1966, Bruce married Miss Joanne Marie Miller and they celebrated 33 years of marriage before Joanne’s passing in March of 1999. For 30 years Bruce worked for Prudential Insurance Company as a sales rep.  Bruce also served for 20 years as a part-time Police officer for the City of Vassar. He enjoyed fishing, camping, snow-mobiling, morel picking, he enjoyed eating with breakfast club, and playing Keno. Bruce loved most of all spending time with his family at the farm.

Bruce leaves to cherish his memory, his family. His children Michael (Tammy) VanHorn, Lisa (Dan) Steele, and Gary (Lizabeth) VanHorn. Bruce’s grandchildren; Jolyn LoPresti, Justin (Lindsay) Beach, Jenna Rowe, Bryce, Brendan, Brooke, VanHorn, Amelia, Hayden VanHorn. Great-grandchildren, Emily Schlicht, and Grayson Beach.  He also leaves a brother-in-law Michael Herrington, a sister-in-law and brother in-law, Bonnie (Jim) Heidenberger, and many nieces, nephews extended family and many friends. Bruce also leaves his loving companion of 21 years Shirley Olsen.  Besides his wife and parents, Bruce is preceded in death by a brother Roger Tappen.

The family will be present at the Hanlin Funeral Home in Millington on Friday from 1:00 pm until 8:00 pm for a time of visiting and sharing. There will be a brief time of visiting on Saturday morning from 10:00 am until services begin. Funeral services will be held at the Hanlin Funeral Home in Millington on Saturday October 23, 2021, beginning at 11:00 am. The burial will follow at the Tuscola Twp. Cemetery in Tuscola, Michigan.  Memorial Gifts of Remembrance can be directed to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, or to a charity of your choice. The VanHorn family would like to thank the staff at Vassar Comfort Care for the care Bruce received in his final days.
