Mrs. Betty Valentine passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Betty was 88.
Born on June 12, 1935, in Flint, Michigan, to the late Forest & the late Helen Zink (née Sears), Betty was raised in Millington and graduated from Millington High School with the class of 1953. Before retirement, Betty was a teacher’s aide with the Millington School District for over twenty years. Further, Betty was a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. She and Ken were active in the Millington Athletic Boosters and in their community. Further, she was active in the Millington-Arbela Historical Society & formerly the Millington Woman’s Club, and she also enjoyed donating and supplying the Millington Fire Dept. with cases of water.
The Betty we knew and loved, loved her family, and loved to tell everyone about them, she was known for telling people to, “come over and I will put a pot of coffee on.” Betty was an amazingly gifted, and talented person who could make any kind of plant grow, she had extensive gardens that she loved to share with everyone, whether it was giving advice or sharing a plant.
She is survived by her children: Dennis (Norma) Valentine, Gerry (Kay) Valentine, Tim (Leslie) Valentine, Terry (Jodi) Valentine, and Denise (Jay) Peplinski. Grandchildren: Joseph (Stacy) Valentine, Benjamin (Yvane) Valentine, Bryan (Faith) Valentine, Shaun (Amanda) Valentine, Michael Valentine, Kaycee (Kaycee) Brandon, Miranda (Josh) Eastman, Dustin (Demi Pedder) Valentine, Jessica (Chris) Beringer, Eric (Jamie) Peplinski, Jerrod (Aubrey) Peplinski, Abigail (Robert) Pattison, Wes (Katy) Ososki, Eric (Sara) Ososki; 26 great-grandchildren; brothers, Dick (Elaine) Zink, and Dave Zink; sister, Pat (Don) Mercer; sister-in-law, Kay Zink; brother-in-law, Jim (Linda) Valentine; as well nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Ken; daughter, Tammy Valentine; brother, Mike Zink; and sister, Sally Chatters.
Betty’s family will welcome visitors to Hanlin Funeral Home – Millington on Friday, February 23, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services for Betty will be at the funeral home on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at 11 a.m.; additional visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Immediately following, Betty will be laid to rest in Millington Twp. Cemetery next to her husband, Ken.
Donations in Betty’s memory may be directed to the St. Paul Library or the Millington-Arbela District Library or St. Paul Lutheran Church.
