Betty J. Griesing

Betty Jean Griesing, age 93, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at Cranberry Park of Clio.

Betty was born in Lapeer, MI, on February 13, 1930, to Otis & Bessie (Jones) Horton. Betty met Walter Griesing and the two were wed on August 20, 1956. Together they raised their five children, shared countless memories, and enjoyed 46 years of marriage before Walter’s passing in 2002. Betty enjoyed painting and traveling. Further, she enjoyed tending to her gardens and canning. Betty was devout in her faith and was an active member of the Vassar Baptist Church for over 50 years.

She is survived by her children: Abi (Brian Alvord) Somerz, Mike (Heidi Schnaare) Griesing, Rhonda (Dave) Kern, and Dave (Cheryl) Griesing; grandchildren: Andrea (Nick) Cassidy, Erin Skoie (Josh) Biggart, Katy (Nick) Pennington, Alicia (Jeffrey) Raymond, Dustin (Danielle) Griesing, and Jacob Griesing; and 15 great-grandchildren; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. 

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; son, Walter Griesing Jr.; stepdaughter, Deborah Malik; and her five siblings.

Betty’s family will welcome visitors to Hanlin Funeral Home – Millington on Sunday, November 12, 2023, from 3-7 p.m. Funeral services for Betty will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 13, 2023, at the Vassar Baptist Church (5880 Frankenmuth Road, Vassar, MI 48768); visitation at church from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Afterwards, Betty will be laid to rest next to her husband, Walter, in Millington Twp. Cemetery.
