Mrs. Betty L. Gillespie, age 90, a longtime Millington resident, passed away in the comfort of her home on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
Betty was born on August 9, 1933, in Ocqueoc, Michigan, to parents, R.B. & Delila (Sinclair) DeRosia. The family moved to Oregon when she was young and returned to Michigan and settled in Onaway. She graduated from Onaway High School with the class of 1953. On July 7, 1956, Betty married the love of her life, Willard Gillespie. Together they raised their four children, shared countless memories, and shared 60 years of marriage before Willard’s passing in 2017. Betty raised the children and enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers. Further she also enjoyed diamond art, crocheting, and baking. In their later years, Betty & Willard travelled and wintered in Florida. Betty also enjoyed visiting her family Up North. Above all, Betty loved her family and being a grandmother to her grandchildren.
Betty is survived by her children: Henry Gillespie, Paul (Jodie) Gillespie, Vicky (Brian) Powless, Randall Gillespie; 8 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard; parents, R.B. & Delila; and her 6 siblings.
The Gillespie family will welcome visitors to Hanlin Funeral Home in Millington from 4-8 p.m. on Monday, May 13, 2024. Funeral services for Betty will follow at the funeral home at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 14, 2024; additional visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Afterwards, Betty will be laid to rest next to her husband, Willard, in Millington Twp. Cemetery.
Donations in Betty’s memory may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
