Barbara B. Sergent

Barbara B. Sergent went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at Birch Run Fields Assisted Living at the age of 94 years.

Barbara was born on March 25, 1930 to the late Donald & Florence (née Meyer) Hyslop on the family farm near Millington. She married the love-of-her-life, Earl L. Sergent, on January 22, 1949. Together they celebrated 69 years of marriage before his passing on August 29, 2018.

After graduating from Millington High School, she worked as a bookkeeper in the Millington and Vassar areas for over 40 years. She was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Millington and served in the Dorcas Society at church. She loved to sew, decorate cakes for birthdays, confirmations, graduations, and all occasions. She also enjoyed bowling and photography, but most of all she enjoyed baking Christmas cookies with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Barbara and Earl liked to travel. Some places they went were: Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Iceland, Maine, and the American West. They spent their winters in Arizona for 20 years, and during the summers at their cabin in the U.P.

Barbara and Earl were blessed with five children: Ed (Lillian) Sergent of Vassar, MI, Vern (Polly) Sergent of Clio, MI, Ann Buff of Otisville, MI, Lloyd (Buff) Sergent of N. Palm Beach FL, and the late infant son, David Sergent; She is also survived by 10 grandchildren: Timothy (Heather) Sergent, Matthew (Theresa) Sergent, Lori (Jeffery) Hecht, Todd Sergent, Emily (Kris) Krey, Kimberly (friend, Anthony Limon) Sergent, Michael (Mary) Hethorn, Jamie Curtis, Robert (Teleasha) Blogg, and Crystal (Ty) Pyles; 22 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren with a fourth due in October; sister, Dorothy Perry; special friend Sue Ill; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Barbara's family will welcome guests to Hanlin Funeral Home in Millington from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, August 16, 2024. Funeral services for Barbara will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at St. Paul Lutheran Church with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. and lasting until the time of service. Rev. Jim Bruner will preside. Committal services to follow in Millington Township Cemetery.
