Alan Petzold

Alan Keith Petzold of Millington, Michigan, passed away after a long illness on June 23, 2016, while at the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI. Alan was 57.

Alan was born to Willard and Carolyn (Beaven) Petzold on Sept. 15, 1958, in Saginaw, MI. He attended St. Paul Lutheran School for primary school and then Millington High School where he played “left out” on the football team. Alan married his beloved high school sweetheart Val on June 27, 1981. He earned an Associate’s in Electronics from ITT Technical Institute in 1978 and a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from the University of Michigan-Flint in 1996. Alan enjoyed a long and successful career at General Motors, working first at Buick in Flint and later at the Milford Proving Grounds. Alan loved tending to his home and lawn and planting trees that he named for important family events.

Alan will be remembered for his caring and generous nature, his easy laugh, and his ability to find exactly the right joke for every occasion. He was the author of several murder mystery plays that were performed as dinner theater at the Millington Community Center. Alan will be missed by many friends, extended family, former co-workers, and members of the Millington community, all of whom were touched by his kindness and his good cheer.

Alan leaves to cherish his memory: his wife Valerie (nee Rodabaugh), his son Andrew (Jennifer) Petzold, his daughter Jacquelyn (Hilary) Petzold, and his granddaughter Amelia Petzold. He leaves also his parents Willard and Carolyn Petzold, two sisters Luanne (Wayne) Jaruzel and Sharon (Thomas) Keinath, his mother-in-law Beverly Rodabaugh, sister-in-law Darylynn (David) Hudson, and two brothers-in-law Larry Rodabaugh, Jr. and James (Barbara) Rodabaugh. He leaves also many nieces, nephews, other extended family, and friends. Alan is preceded in death by his brother Michael Petzold, sister-in-law Angela Rodabaugh, and father-in-law Larry Rodabaugh, Sr.

The family will receive friends at the Hanlin Funeral Home in Millington on Monday June 27, 2016, from 2:00 until 8:00 pm. There will be a brief time of visitation on Tuesday from 10:00 am until the services begin at St. Paul. Funeral services for Alan will be held on Tuesday June 28, 2016, at 11:00 am at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Millington, MI. The burial will follow at the Millington Township Cemetery. Pastor James Bruner will deliver the funeral message and the committal prayer at the cemetery. Memorial gifts in Alan's memory can be directed to the Millington Community Center.
