Agnes (Schell) Rader

Agnes Jean (Schell) Rader was born August 27, 1924 to Ernest and Mayme Schell in Fostoria, Michigan. Agnes passed away early Thursday morning December 5, 2019 at the age of 95.

She was wed to Russell Rader on June 29, 1946, and they celebrated 71 years of marriage together before Russ passed away in 2017. They had five children, eight grandchildren and 16 great- grandchildren. She graduated from Fostoria High School in 1942 and went on to County Normal where she earned her teaching certificate. She began her teaching career at Spring Hill School and taught at Green and Watertown country schools before they became part of the Millington School District. She went on to teach in Millington, where for most of her career she taught fourth grade. After retiring from teaching, she served as Millington Township treasurer and worked part time with Russ at the elevator. Agnes, also known as “Peg” by friends, enjoyed bowling, playing golf and spending time with family and lifelong friends at Murphy Lake. She loved to knit, crochet and sew, gifting many a newborn baby with little sweaters, booties and bonnets over the years. Her children and grandchildren cherish the handmade items that have survived the ages, and in recent years enjoyed the annual Christmas distribution of the dish cloths knitted with love.

She is survived by children Paula Lyman, Carla (John) Moore, Joe (Raye) Rader, Carol (Keith) Bleuer, and Susan (Tony)Kessler, grandchildren, Crystal (Kevin) Vida, Kori (Mark) Pyenta, Mike (Leah) Rader, Kenny (Laura)Moore, Tricia (Brent) Long, Tricia Hauger, Kyle Jozsa and Caitlin Bleuer, great grandchildren Karlie,Tanner and Travis Vida, Abigail, Lydia, Kyria and Mercy Pyenta, Maddie, Charlie and Danny Moore, Hayden, Morgan and Ben Rader, Isaac, Shiloh and Naomi Long, sister-in-law Marge Rader, many nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Mayme (Rowell) Schell, father- and mother-in-law Henry and Anna (Schrader) Rader, brother Daniel Schell & wife Lola, brother Edward and wife Alice Schell, sister Ann and husband Waldo Garner, brother-law Donald and wife Vernice Rader (Berriman), brother-in-law Carl Rader, sister-in-law Dorothy and husband Lyle Ide, son-in-law Morris “Bud” Lyman.

A memorial service is planned for spring, 2020. Those who wish to do so may make donations in Agnes ‘memory to The Care Team (Home Health and Hospice) of Saginaw, or the Alzheimer Foundation.
